If you have a business based in the UK, and need to hire a person from outside the UK or someone who requires Skilled Worker Visa, then you must obtain a Sponsorship License.

Before you can hire a selected individual for the job, your company needs to receive the necessary authorisation from the Home Office.

In the past, Sponsorship Licences were known as Tier 2 Sponsor Licences. These licences help UK-based organisations to add talent from overseas and offer an easier transition from different visas such as a Student visa (Tier 4) and/or Tier 2 Visa.

Since the UK’s departure from the European Union, numerous businesses that relied on mobility of personnel from Europe became aware of their necessity for a sponsorship license to remain capable of hiring workers they need.

EU sponsorship license has revolutionised the way businesses are recruiting talent from different parts of the world. It not only brings in quality professionals at competitive rates but also unleashes immense potential for these companies.

Obtaining a sponsorship license enables businesses to draw in the best talent from far & wide. With this authorisation, you have access to an even larger pool of skilled personnel who possess outstanding capabilities.

It’s always recommended that you secure a license if you intend to hire individuals or require more options. Doing this will help you find the best employees for your business and give it an edge over its competitors.

Licensing and recruitment of your desired staff member can be divided into three distinct steps which are as follows: –

Stage 1: Apply For A Sponsorship License For Your Business

Stage 2: Assign COS To Chosen Individual(s)

Stage 3: Apply For Skilled Worker Visa For The Chosen Individual(s)

Completion of each step in the process is essential before moving forward, as a Sponsorship License must be obtained before an application for COS can be made.

Once your business has attained an impressive rating, you’ll get a license that is valid for up to 4 years. This licence will enable you to issue Certificates of Sponsorship (COS).

To effectively manage sponsored employees, it is important to have the necessary systems in place for monitoring them.

Obtaining a license requires assigning experienced team members to manage and implement the sponsorship procedure proficiently. This ensures that all the requirements for obtaining a license are met properly.

The Application Fee:

Small Businesses – Currently £536.

Typical Small Business:

Annual Turnover Is £10.2 Million Or Less

50 Employees Or Fewer

Medium To Large Businesses –  Currently £1,476.

After successfully obtaining approval, the license will remain valid for four years and can be renewed if needed.

Restrictions of applying for a Licence

People who have an existing criminal charge related to immigration, fraud or money laundering aren’t eligible to apply for a sponsorship license.

Additionally, if you have not been able to meet the expectations of your sponsorship duties in the past, this could lessen your chances of approval.
